Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Drops: Brie Larson Joins Cast

Get ready to explore the universe! Nintendo and Illumination have just dropped the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering fans a colorful preview of the next adventure following the success of the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie.

New Characters Join the Adventure

The new trailer for the movie brings back familiar voices like Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. It also reveals two exciting new cast members: Brie Larson will voice Princess Rosalina, and Benny Safdie will be Bowser Jr.

Ever since the new game was announced as a Super Mario Galaxy sequel, fans wondered if Rosalina would appear. She’s a popular character from those games and well-loved by Mario fans in general. The addition of Bowser Jr. is also exciting, and could make the story’s villainous side even more interesting, especially with Jack Black voicing Bowser.

Poster Teases Cosmic Setting

The latest poster features Mario, Peach, and several Toads traveling by boat on a shimmering ocean under a meteor shower. A huge, castle-like structure looms in the distance. The scene suggests the story goes far beyond the familiar Mushroom Kingdom, possibly taking place across different planets, stars, and even throughout time and space. This is a significant visual improvement over the first movie and strongly resembles the look and feel of the Super Mario Galaxy video games.

Creative Team and Release Info

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the movie, based on a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo are producing it again. Universal Pictures is helping to fund the film and will distribute it globally.

I just got a look at the release dates for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it’s hitting US theaters on April 3, 2026, with Japanese audiences getting it a little later on April 24th. Knowing the first Super Mario Bros. Movie pulled in a massive $1.36 billion worldwide – making it the third-highest-grossing animated film ever – expectations are definitely high for this sequel!
