Nintendo and Universal have just dropped the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving fans a last glimpse before the film arrives in theaters on April 1st. The trailer is also encouraging people to buy tickets, with a message highlighting the epic scale of the adventure: “It takes a lot of star power to save the galaxy.”
Final trailer released through Nintendo Direct
The latest trailer debuted on Monday during a Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to the film. Nintendo also shared the trailer on its website and confirmed the movie will hit theaters on April 1, 2026.
Super Mario sequel heads into space
The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This new film will send Mario on a grand adventure across the galaxy, taking inspiration from the Super Mario Galaxy video games. Nintendo has officially confirmed the movie’s connection to the Galaxy brand and sees it as a key part of their promotional strategy.
Same creative team returns
The team behind last year’s popular movie is reuniting for this new film. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing again, with Matthew Fogel writing the story and Brian Tyler composing the music. Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo are producing once more.
Following a billion-dollar hit
Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie – which grossed over $1.3 billion globally – Universal and Nintendo are aiming for another blockbuster with a sequel. Like the first film, this one is a joint venture between Universal Pictures and Nintendo, with Universal distributing it worldwide.
