As a die-hard fan who has grown up watching Superman soar through the skies, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story“. This documentary is not just a journey through the life of an iconic superhero, but a tribute to a real-life hero who transcended his on-screen persona.
Warner Bros. has just unveiled a trailer for “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” a movie about the life of the beloved DC Comics icon. This upcoming film offers a moving tribute to both fans and family members, as it chronicles the extraordinary journey experienced by the late star.
The documentary vividly shares Christopher Reeve’s personal journeys, aiming to guide viewers through the remarkable transition he underwent – transforming from a beloved screen superhero into a genuine, off-screen hero.
The preview showcases some touching scenes where Reeve’s family talks about him. Included in these conversations are his children Matthew, Alexandra, and Will, as well as his late wife, Dana Reeve, who is also highlighted. For those unfamiliar, Dana sadly lost her life to lung cancer in 2006.
The text includes phrases from several close friends of Christopher Reeve, including Glenn Close and Susan Sarandon. Additionally, it showcases Christopher Reeve enjoying what seems to be the happiest moments of his life, as he interacts with his adoring fans, eager for his signature. A poignant scene also highlights the late star’s love for ice hockey.
In the newly unveiled trailer, the tragic accident that befell Reeve is graphically portrayed. The trailer includes a scene from archival footage, showing the renowned DC figure tumbling off a horse.
1995 was the year that brought a devastating event into Reeve’s life, triggered by a severe accident during an equestrian contest. Unfortunately, he fell off a horse, resulting in an injury that left him unable to move from his neck down. This incident was shocking.
In the trailer, viewers catch a glimpse of those close to him helping to lay him on a hospital bed.
In poignant instances, a voiceover echoes from the esteemed Christopher Reeve himself, expressing his heartfelt sentiments: “I’ve destroyed my own life and everyone else’s around me. I won’t be able to ski, sail, play catch with Will, or make love to Dana anymore. Perhaps it’s time for me to leave.”
After the significant incident, Christopher Reeve endured much hardship, yet he continued to embody heroism in reality. The esteemed figure, along with his wife Dana, became champions for disability rights and spearheaded investigations into spinal cord injuries. Together, they established the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, an organization that even lobbied for stem cell research legislation.
The Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui-directed documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” is set to premiere in select cinemas on September 21st. In addition, there will be a special screening on the birthday of Reeve himself, September 25th.
