Sundance Film Festival CEO Reveals Why Event Won’t Be Postponed Amid L.A. Wildfires

In spite of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles leading to damage of properties, loss of lives, and displacement of many residents earlier this year, the Sundance Film Festival, originally scheduled for January 23, will proceed as initially planned.

In a statement penned by Amanda Kelso, the CEO, and Eugene Hernandez, the director, they outlined the motive for their choice. The message expressed their tradition of uniting as a community during moments when “determination and tenacity” are essential.

The gathering for the festival fosters unity among participants, providing them with a sense of strength and resilience derived from their strong connections. The statement continues by acknowledging that although we grieve now, it’s crucial to keep moving forward.

Despite numerous cancellations such as the Critics Choice Awards, BAFTA Tea Party, WGA and PGA nominations, the Sundance Film Festival is still scheduled to start as planned on its original date, which is January 23, in Park City.

This message is sent following the unfortunate incident of Michelle Satter, the festival’s cherished founder, losing her home to the Palisades wildfire.
