The summer 2025 anime season is over, and one show really stood out. Everyone was looking forward to the second seasons of Dandadan and Kaiju No. 8, but it was the new action anime Gachiakuta that became the most popular series on Crunchyroll this season.
The official Gachiakuta anime account on X (previously known as Twitter) announced that the series was a hit right from the start, attracting viewers in over 200 countries and quickly gaining a dedicated fanbase. Viewing numbers were exceptionally high from the very first episode.
Gachiakuta, also known as Legit Trash, is a manga series by Kei Urana. It began publication in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022.
As of September 2025, the manga series had already been compiled into 16 volumes. And I was so excited when the anime adaptation, produced by Bones Film, finally premiered in July 2025! It’s really been getting a lot of buzz – and deservedly so, in my opinion – because the visuals are stunning, the story is gripping, and the music is just fantastic. I’m completely hooked!
Fumihiko Suganuma directed the anime, while Hiroshi Seko handled the scriptwriting. Satoshi Ishino was in charge of chief animation direction and character design, and the music was composed by Taku Iwasaki.
The show is broadcast as part of the Agaru Anime block on JNN stations such as CBC and TBS, and is scheduled to run for two seasons back-to-back. Prior to its television debut, Gachiakuta: World Takeover was shown in more than 15 countries, including a premiere event at Shinjuku Piccadilly on July 4th. Crunchyroll is streaming new episodes as they air, and Medialink has obtained the rights to distribute the series in Southeast Asia, where it can be watched on the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel.
The first part of the series features the opening song Hugs by Paledusk, and the ending theme Tomoshibi by Dustcell. Gachiakuta’s success this summer proves that new anime can quickly become popular worldwide, suggesting that viewers’ tastes may be changing.
I believe our biggest challenges are conformity, authority, and discrimination! We need to rise up and change this awful world, even if it feels like coming back from the depths of Hell!
I’m so excited – @Crunchyroll is premiering Gachiakuta on July 6th!

The success of Gachiakuta demonstrates how important international streaming services are becoming for anime. A series doesn’t require a long history or established franchise to become popular-it just needs to quickly grab viewers’ interest. It’s clear that fans enjoyed the show’s story, animation, and music.
