As an ardent fan of the Stranger Things universe, I am absolutely ecstatic about Louis McCartney’s Broadway debut with Stranger Things: The First Shadow! Having been captivated by his portrayal of Henry Creel in the West End productions, I can confidently say that he is the ideal choice for this role. His talent and dedication to the character are truly extraordinary, and I am beyond thrilled that Broadway audiences will get to witness his mesmerizing performance firsthand.
Louis McCartney is all set to grace Broadway for the first time with the production titled “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” This show is expected to gain acclaim following its West End performances. In this production, McCartney will once again embody the character Henry Creel, a role he previously portrayed in the studios. Stephen Daldry will be the main director for the theater piece, with Justin Martin sharing directing duties.
Regarding McCartney taking over the play, directors expressed that they could not have chosen a more suitable replacement for the character. They said, “Louis delivers an outstanding performance as Henry Creel onstage at the West End, and we are immensely proud of the extraordinary life he brings to the role.
Right from our very first encounter with him, I sensed something exceptional. Now, I’m overjoyed to share that Broadway audiences will get to experience this remarkable talent for themselves!
In the play “The First Shadow,” the story unfolds several years prior to the incidents depicted in the Netflix series, where characters like Millie Bobby Brown, Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, and other notable figures first encounter the Upside Down.
“Before life took a strange turn. Hawkins, 1959: an ordinary town with common concerns. Young Jim Hopper struggles with his car refusing to start, Bob Newby battles his sister’s lack of faith in his radio show, and Joyce Maldonado yearns for graduation and a chance to escape this town.
Upon Henry Creel’s arrival as a new student, his family discovers that a fresh beginning is not as straightforward… as the influences of the past extend quite far.
Currently, a new series titled “The First Shadow” is being written by Kate Trefry, who serves as its executive producer. This narrative is based on an original concept by the creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, in collaboration with playwrights Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, known for their work on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Regarding McCartney’s additional roles in the film industry, he is recognized for his contributions to Silent Roar, Hopestreet, and Grounding.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that starting from March 28, 2025, I’ll have the privilege of attending the previews for “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” on Broadway! The official opening is scheduled for April 22, 2025. Can’t wait to immerse myself in the Upside Down world of Hawkins once more!
