As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the eerie yet captivating world of Stranger Things, I can hardly contain my excitement as the prequel, The First Shadow, is set to grace Broadway in 2025. Having grown up during the ’80s myself, I can only imagine the nostalgic thrill this production will evoke for those who lived through that era.
Stranger Things: The Untold Beginnings, a prequel set 24 years prior to the Netflix sensation Stranger Things, will debut on Broadway in 2025. Winner of an Olivier Award, this production will start its preview performances on March 28 of next year and officially open on April 22 at the Marquis Theater, as reported by The New York Times. This grand production initially opened on the West End in London in November 2023 and garnered positive feedback from the audience.
“The First Shadow” – a fresh play penned by Kate Trefry, inspired by an original narrative from the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and herself. Just like the popular Netflix series, it’s set in the imaginative town of Hawkins. This three-hour production is steered by Stephen Daldry, a three-time Tony Award winner for The Inheritance, Billy Elliot, and An Inspector Calls. Sharing the directorial duties with him is Justin Martin.
Netflix takes the lead in the show’s production, collaborating with Sonia Friedman, a renowned theater producer on both Broadway and the West End. Further details about the Broadway show’s cast will be revealed at a future time.
