Although filming for Stranger Things 5 finished in January, the story isn’t over yet. The creators, the Duffer Brothers, are releasing a new animated series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, set in 1985. Netflix recently shared a first look, revealing character designs for seven individuals. The announcement also introduced Nikki Baxter, a new character who will be voiced by Odessa A’zion, and who will join Eleven, Mike, and the rest of the gang on their adventures.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 bridges the gap between seasons two and three of Stranger Things. The story unfolds during a quiet winter in Hawkins, a brief period of peace after the terrifying events involving the Upside Down. Max, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Eleven, and Mike try to get back to normal with Dungeons & Dragons and winter fun. But viewers know that calm never lasts long in Hawkins. A new danger emerges from beneath the ice, pulling the group into another adventure. The source of this threat remains a mystery – is it connected to Hawkins Lab, the Upside Down, or something completely different?
Nikki Baxter is a fresh face in Hawkins, and she’s seeing things with new eyes. As a new student who just moved from the East Coast, she has no idea about the town’s hidden monsters. Nikki is a kind, loyal, and fearless character who expresses herself through a bold, punk-rock style. A’zion, known for her role as Rachel in Marty Supreme, will be providing the voice for Nikki.
According to showrunner Eric Robles, Nikki acts as the viewer’s perspective. She’s brand new to this world and brings her own personal struggles with her. The other characters essentially enter her world. As things get chaotic, she has to work with them to understand what’s happening, because she can’t simply ignore what she’s witnessed.
As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I’m really excited about the new character posters for Tales from ’85! The animation style looks absolutely perfect – exactly what I’d hoped for in a spin-off series. It’s great that the Duffer Brothers are producing it, and with Eric Robles as showrunner, I have a really good feeling about this. Mark your calendars, because Stranger Things: Tales of ’85 is coming to Netflix on April 23, 2026!
