Finn Wolfhard recently shared that the strong negative response to the final season of Game of Thrones made the cast of his show anxious about how fans would react to their own series ending. Hopefully, that won’t happen, but it’s still a concern. However, Stranger Things will have a different fate than Game of Thrones. The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, will be able to finish their story the way the creators of Game of Thrones originally intended – with a release in movie theaters. Netflix has confirmed that the final episodes of Stranger Things will be shown in cinemas.
You won’t have to leave home to watch the final season of Stranger Things! It will still be available on Netflix as soon as it’s released.
Netflix is giving fans a special opportunity to see the final episode of Stranger Things 5 on the big screen. Select theaters across the U.S. and Canada will show the episode starting December 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. It will also be available to stream on Netflix worldwide at the same time. The theatrical screenings will continue for one additional day, January 1, 2026.
Happy New Year, Vecna! Well, no. We hope it’s an Unhappy New Year. You know what we mean!
The Duffer Brothers, creators of the show, recently explained their reasoning for wanting the final season to be released as a movie.
We are thrilled to announce that fans will get to see the final episode of Stranger Things in movie theaters! It’s been a long-held dream of ours, and we’re so thankful to Ted, Bela, and the entire Netflix team for making it a reality. Experiencing it on the big screen with amazing sound and visuals, surrounded by fellow fans, feels like the ultimate way to celebrate the end of this incredible journey.
This film is a project Benioff and Weiss originally envisioned as a way to conclude their Game of Thrones series with movies, but HBO insisted on a television ending. It’s possible Netflix would have reacted similarly if the creators of Stranger Things had proposed three films instead of a final season.
Instead we know Stranger Things fans will be turning up at theaters on New Year’s Eve.
