Stranger Things Season 5 Star Noah Schnapp Opens Up About ‘Million Times Better’ Experience on Set After Coming Out as Gay

Noah Schnapp shares his experience of coming out as gay prior to the final season of Stranger Things. The actor expresses that living authentically transformed his whole experience while filming the fifth season of this popular Netflix show.

2023 marked a significant turning point for Schnapp as he openly expressed his queer identity publicly. This decision positively impacted both his professional and personal life, he shared. Returning to set for the final episode of the series in 2023 felt incredibly authentic to him. Filming for the latest season was completed in 2024.

As reported by People, at the Broadway debut of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, actor Schnapp (who plays Will Byers) expressed that no longer needing to conceal his identity significantly improved his experience. This freedom allowed him to tackle the role and interact with his fellow cast members in a more sincere and open fashion.

At the New York City premiere, Schnapp shared with Variety, “It’s fantastic! The joy of stepping onto that set, knowing I can live authentically, has transformed this season immeasurably. It’s been a million times improved because I’m no longer concealing myself.

In simpler terms, the cast of Stranger Things includes Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Winona Ryder, Maya Hawke, Matthew Modine, and Jamie Campbell Bower. The fifth season will be released on Netflix on October 10, 2025.
