Stranger Things’ Joe Keery Dedicates Track to Co-star Charlie Heaton in New Album; ‘One of My Favorites…’

On the set of Stranger Things, Joe Keery and Charlie Heaton portray characters who are more like rivals than friends. Yet, behind the scenes, their bond is exceptional, akin to an unparalleled bromance. Interestingly, Joe Keery uses the mononym Djo as his stage name when he performs music. It’s pronounced just like his real name, Joe.

I just can’t contain my excitement! This past week, they unveiled their latest masterpiece, “The Crux,” and guess what? There’s an entire song dedicated to their friend and co-star, none other than the fantastic Heaton! Can’t wait to dive deep into this new music!

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor shared that he aimed to include significant individuals from his life and immortalize their shared moments within the album.

The song “Charlie’s Garden” was influenced by the period he spent living near Heaton, as well as his on-screen partner from Stranger Things, Natalia Dyer.

According to Keery, Charlie and Natalia resided in a house where I stayed with a friend, and our yards adjoined. The genesis of the song took place when I was at their home one day. While they were out walking their dog, I began playing their piano, which is how the song was born.

He went back to his recording space, played his part on the track initially, and subsequently, Heaton recorded his segment for the same track later on. Meanwhile, Keery commented that this particular track is one of his favorites due to its distinct influences.

The performer-musician disclosed that the tune combines elements reminiscent of The Beatles, with a focus on Paul McCartney, and ELO [Electric Light Orchestra]. Keery also mentioned that the song was his tribute to his esteemed friend and the experiences he had in Atlanta.

It’s not a secret that nearly all the actors in Stranger Things have a knack for music. Millie Bobby Brown is known for her powerful voice, while Heaton excels as both a songwriter and drummer, as revealed by Keery. He mentioned Maya Hawke as someone with musical talent.

Finn Wolfhard serves as both lead singer and guitarist for the rock group Calpurnia. Lately, he has released a fresh tune and an entire album that Stranger Things co-star Caleb McLaughlin (Keery) appreciates. “It’s unexpected, yet not completely unanticipated,” said McLaughlin, hinting at the talented musicians within the Netflix series cast.
