Fans of Stranger Things recently discovered that twin actresses played Holly Wheeler, Mike and Nancy’s younger sister. Anniston and Tinsley Price shared a touching video looking back at their time on the show, including behind-the-scenes clips with stars like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Carla Buono.
Many viewers were surprised to learn that the character Holly was actually played by twin actresses. Fans on TikTok reacted with shock, with comments like “There are two?” and “Wait, does that mean the Holly from Stranger Things has a twin?” Some people even admitted they hadn’t realized it at all, saying, “I never even noticed!”
The twins have played Holly on the show since it began in 2016, appearing through its fourth season. Since Holly was a young character with limited dialogue, the role mostly involved the twins simply being themselves while filming.

In the fifth and final season, the role of Holly was taken over by actress Nell Fisher as the character became more important to the plot. According to co-creator Matt Duffer, who spoke with SFX, this change was crucial and will become clearer as the season unfolds. He stated, “You’ll understand why we needed to add her to the cast once you’ve seen the whole season.”
Ross Duffer explained to Variety that Holly didn’t have much dialogue in earlier seasons. He described how they originally filmed her scenes, saying they’d simply capture whatever the young twin actors naturally did. As they developed the character of Nell, they began to incorporate Nell’s personality into Holly, giving her more definition.
Matt Duffer acknowledged they were worried about recasting the role of Holly. While the new actress didn’t need to look exactly like the previous twins who played the part, she needed to bear enough of a resemblance to avoid confusing viewers. More importantly, Duffer emphasized the need for a truly talented actor.
Shawn Levy, an executive producer on the show, explained that the Duffer Brothers had originally planned to feature Holly more prominently in the final season. He told TUDUM that when they first filmed scenes with Holly years ago, they used three-year-old twins. This time, they needed an actress of a similar young age to recapture the same innocent feel that defined the characters when the show began.
Although fans were disappointed to see the twins go, Anniston and Tinsley were happy for Nell to take over. They shared a message on Instagram saying, “We’re excited to see what you do with Holly – we know you’ll do great!”
