Zooey Deschanel and her partner Jonathan Scott commemorated their fifth anniversary of their first date by raising a toast to love and unity. On August 11, the actress posted a series of pictures featuring Jonathan on Instagram, reminiscing about their special day.

Five years ago on this very day, I had the fortunate opportunity to go out on a date with an absolute charmer, as Deschanel put it in her post. Here we stand, and he continues to bring joy into my life daily.

In various photographs, Scott can be seen prominently, appearing alongside Deschanel’s children in certain shots and solo in others, as well as with Deschanel.

In the year 2019, our paths crossed, and four years down the line, in August 2023, we found ourselves embarking on a magical journey in Scotland – the setting for the most memorable moment of our lives so far. This momentous occasion was marked by us pledging our eternal love to each other. Looking back, our first date holds a special place in our hearts. It was filled with an escape room challenge, singing our hearts out at karaoke, and sharing a bottle of wine – a perfect blend of adventure, laughter, and intimacy. We couldn’t help but share this delightful tale with PEOPLE.

Deschanel shared her story about the escape room, stating, “To be truthful, I hadn’t ever tried an escape room before, and he was constantly praising them. Well, I must say I really enjoyed participating in it and soon grew fond of the experience.” She further explained, “Initially, I wasn’t particularly skilled at it, but now I’ve become quite adept.”

Deschanel was quite taken aback by the fact that Scott had meticulously prepared an itinerary and organized an entire activity for the both of them.

Zooey Deschanel prefers to keep her children, Elsie (age 9) and Charlie (age 7), who she has joint custody with her former spouse Jacob Pechenik, out of the public eye. Not even in her anniversary posts are their faces revealed.
