As a lifestyle expert, it is always a joy to witness the resilience and timeless talent of artists like Stevie Nicks. Her recent performance on SNL was not just a comeback, but a testament to her enduring spirit and unmatched artistry. Forty years later, she still rocks the stage with an energy that is infectious and captivating.
40 years after making a strong return to the music scene, Stevie Nicks graced Saturday Night Live as the musical guest on October 12. Hosted by Ariana Grande, the comedy series saw Stevie perform some of her classic tunes. Kicking off with a new track titled “The Lighthouse” from her upcoming 2024 album bearing the same name, she then belted out her iconic 1981 hit “Edge of Seventeen.
Prior to her second act, Stevie Nicks encountered a minor technical issue. This hiccup was swiftly resolved, but it caused her image and several advertisements to appear on the screen briefly. Despite this unexpected interruption, Nicks gracefully managed the situation, showcasing her professionalism, and delivered an outstanding performance that elicited enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In her performances, the musician donned a complete black ensemble – a velvet jacket, skirt, and boots were part of this monochrome attire. This wasn’t her first time on Saturday Night Live; she had previously graced the stage in 1983 as the musical guest for episode 8 of season 9. That night, the show was hosted by Flip Wilson, and during her stint, she sang ‘Stand Back’ and ‘Nightbird’, two tracks from her second studio album, The Wild Heart.
In a recent chat with PEOPLE, the artist reminisced about her debut on Saturday Night Live during the early phase of her solo act. Prior to embarking on her solo adventure, she was a member of the rock group Fleetwood Mac, alongside Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Peter Green.
Approximately two and a half years into my solo journey, it was quite intimidating because I wasn’t Fleetwood Mac anymore,” she explained to the media outlet. “Performing on Saturday Night Live as a solo act after being part of such a large band was truly terrifying,” she continued.
The musician also recalled how her big performance was almost ruined when her friend “freaked out” over stage fright right before she joined Nicks on stage.
Instead, Lori Perry, her sister-in-law and frequent backup singer, stepped in admirably when she couldn’t perform. Remarkably, despite the unexpected disruption, Whitney Houston felt content with how the performance unfolded. “The show was enchanting,” she said, “and I was delighted. It undeniably provided a significant boost to my solo career.
