Steven Soderbergh’s PRESENCE Trailer Reveals a Haunted House Story From a Supernatural POV

As a gamer with a penchant for horror movies that can give me a good scare and leave me pondering long after the credits roll, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Presence.” With David Koepp’s masterful storytelling behind it and Steven Soderbergh back in the director’s chair, this film promises to be a chilling ride. The teaser trailer alone has already sent shivers down my spine!

Since 2018, Steven Soderbergh, known for films like “Contagion,” “Ocean’s 11,” and “Traffic,” has primarily been releasing movies exclusively on streaming platforms. However, his upcoming film titled “Presence” will be shown in theaters nationwide next year. Here is a sneak peek at the chilling teaser trailer for this supernatural horror movie shot from the perspective of a ghost. It stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, and Chris Sullivan under NEON Films’ banner. Take a look at the spine-tingling preview for “Presence” right here:

David Koepp, known for penning hits like “Jurassic Park” and “Spider-Man”, is the scribe behind the upcoming movie “Presence”. This film hails from NEON, who recently released one of the top indie horror sensations of the year with “Longlegs”. With these elements combined, it seems we’re brewing a recipe for another horror sensation at the box office based on word-of-mouth. In recent years, Steven Soderbergh has opted for streaming for many of his serious dramatic films. However, horror remains potent at the box office, sharing the spotlight with traditional blockbusters. Given the trailer for “Presence”, it could very well be the next “Longlegs” or “Immaculate”.

The movie titled “Presence” made its premiere at Sundance earlier this year and currently boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%. This suggests that the film could potentially be a hidden gem, poised to make a significant impact. Filmed during the writers and actors strikes in 2023, thanks to a unique SAG-AFTRA agreement for specific indie productions at the time, “Presence” offers an intriguing perspective – it’s told entirely from the first-person viewpoint of a ghost. While details about its plot are scarce, it seems to share some parallels with “The Sixth Sense“. It’s interesting to note that in this story, the terror might not necessarily come from the deceased, but rather from the living and breathing characters. Thanks to NEON and A24, we’re currently experiencing a golden age for horror movies.

NEON currently plans to release Presence on January 15, 2025.
