Steven Knight No Longer Writing ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’

As a seasoned gamer with years of navigating tumultuous storylines and development hell, I can’t help but draw parallels between my favorite virtual worlds and the current state of Star Wars: New Jedi Order. The game of thrones at Lucasfilm seems to have surpassed even the most epic MMORPGs in terms of unexpected twists and departures.

It was recently announced that Steven Knight, who was slated to write for the upcoming ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order,’ directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and featuring Daisy Ridley, has decided to step down from the project. This movie, which has had some difficulties and notable departures of key personnel, has been likened to the problematic production of the ‘Blade’ reboot.

Earlier on, we mentioned that Knight faced challenges in crafting the script for more than a year without completing a final draft. Despite this, he created four different versions of it. However, constant suggestions from Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm led to ongoing revisions.

Currently, according to Matt Belloni from Puck, it’s confirmed that Knight is no longer involved in the project. His departure might push back the movie’s release date past its initial plan for December 2026.

For the past two years, this movie has been in production, but not without its share of challenges. Writers such as Damon Lindelof and Justin Brit-Gibson have also departed the project because of disagreements over creative direction.

It appears that Disney and Lucasfilm are considering if they should move forward with the planned story focusing on Rey, where she would be seen guiding a fresh group of Jedi.

Discussions have been ignited and rumors swirl regarding the selection of Obaid-Chinoy, renowned for her documentary films, as the director, with whispers suggesting a possible change in leadership.

This predicament further complicates the issues Kathleen Kennedy has been dealing with at Lucasfilm, leading to speculation about the future course of the franchise.

Still, there’s some good news for Star Wars fans, as the new origin movie, ‘Dawn of the Jedi’, is confirmed to go into production next year.
