The trailer for Stranger Things 5 Volume 2 features a moment referencing a memorable scene between Dustin and Steve. In Stranger Things 3, the two were stuck in an elevator with Erica and Robin, facing danger from Russians, and discovered a strange crate. Steve wanted to open it himself, urging the others to stay back, but Dustin famously declared, “If you die, I die.” It was a lighthearted joke then, but seeing Dustin and Steve revisit that line about death in the new trailer feels much heavier and more unsettling.
The trailer features a touching moment where Steve repeats Dustin’s famous line, “If you die, I die,” and Dustin returns the sentiment. It’s a powerful echo of their bond! Honestly, watching that made us really worried about their fate – we definitely don’t want to see either of them die. It’s funny, because while rewatching the season, we jokingly suggested that Steve and Dustin dying together would be a fitting conclusion to that storyline… but we absolutely didn’t want that to actually happen!
It’s good to see Steve and Dustin reconnecting so strongly, which suggests they’ve worked through the difficulties they faced in the first part of Stranger Things 5. Their argument and hurtful words stemmed from Dustin’s sadness over Eddie’s death and Steve’s struggle to support him, leaving both of them feeling awful and creating a painful distance between them. Their falling out was truly heartbreaking.
We’re really hoping to see Dustin and Steve repair their friendship – it’s a vital connection for both of them. However, we’re definitely not happy that their making up might mean one of them could die. Ideally, neither Steve nor Dustin would have to die, and that could be the end of deaths in Stranger Things 5.
