Stephen King has started working on the third part of the ‘Talisman’ series, which he co-authored with the late Peter Straub. King recently announced this intriguing news via Threads, explaining that Straub had come up with the idea for the new book before his death in 2022. Although King has begun working on it, there’s still a significant amount of work to be done before the project is finished.

Originally, “The Talisman” was released for public consumption back in 1984, and its continuation, titled “Black House,” hit the shelves in 2011. The initial novel introduced us to Jack Sawyer, a young lad embarking on a mission to save lives while traversing alternate dimensions. In contrast, “Black House” delved into King’s “Dark Tower” universe by following Jack as a grown man probing gruesome homicides in Wisconsin.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve pondered for years about whether Stephen King might carry on his epic tale, particularly following the passing of Straub. So, receiving this confirmation holds immense weight and excitement for me.
King mentioned that Straub came up with an “excellent concept” for the upcoming book, and it will bear both their names, similar to their earlier collaborations. He also stated, “I’m definitely drawing from my inner Straub while writing,” acknowledging their creative bond. However, he emphasized that the project is still in its initial phase, so he urged everyone to practice patience.
Over many years, “The Talisman” has been sought for film adaptation as well. Since the 1980s, Steven Spielberg, who owns the movie rights, revealed in 2021 that he will collaborate with the Duffer Brothers, creators of “Stranger Things,” to create a Netflix series inspired by the novel. Fans of Stephen King’s work are excited to witness the evolution of both the upcoming book and the adaptation.
Speaking about Stephen King’s impressive writing spree, this new project further enriches an already intriguing collection of works. Upcoming publications feature “Never Flinch,” a return to Holly Gibney’s world, and “The End of the World As We Know It,” a short story compilation inspired by “The Stand.” King demonstrates yet again that he has no intention of slowing down, showing us that his creative abilities are truly boundless.
