At last, the initial trailer has been released for the upcoming animated sports comedy titled GOAT, jointly produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures. The story emphasizes the importance of being bold, regardless of your size.
This week, NBA star Stephen Curry unveiled a trailer featuring an extraordinary protagonist: a small goat named Will Harris. Voiced by Caleb McLaughlin from Stranger Things, this determined goat aspires to succeed in the thrilling, fast-paced, and physically demanding sport of roarball, a game that only the toughest animals participate in.
In the movie, it’s not Curry who speaks for the goat, but instead, he portrays Lenny, a towering giraffe athlete. However, through his role, he effectively conveys the film’s core message: “Even if you’re small, never stop dreaming big.
In a world brimming with creatures, the animated film GOAT chronicles Will’s journey towards joining a top-tier growlball team. However, his new companions aren’t particularly thrilled about a goat being part of their squad. They question whether he can manage, let alone excel. As described in the official synopsis from Sony Pictures Animation, “Will is determined to revolutionize the sport and show beyond doubt that even the smallest ones can play with the best!”
The video preview displays Will engaging in hustles, practicing diligently, and challenging fierce opponents, all while “I Wish” by Skee-Lo plays in the background. This creates a lively, energetic atmosphere for the sneak peek, as the tale of an underdog unfolds.
The movie is helmed by Tyree Dillihay, with Adam Rosette sharing the directorial duties. This marks Dillihay’s debut as a feature film director. The screenplay was penned by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley. In addition to Curry serving as producer, Erick Peyton from Unanimous Media, along with producers from Modern Magic including Michelle Raimo Kouyate, Adam Rosenberg, and Rodney Rothman, are also involved in its production.
The star-studded lineup includes Gabrielle Union as the fearless Jett Fillmore, a black leopard team captain. Nick Kroll voices Modo, a fire-breathing komodo dragon. Nicola Coughlan plays Olivia Burke, an ostrich, and David Harbour lends his voice to a massive rhino player. Jenifer Lewis is Florence Everson, the team owner, while Patton Oswalt voices Coach Dennis. Other cast members include Jennifer Hudson, Aaron Pierre, Jelly Roll, Ayesha Curry, Eduardo Franco, Bobby Lee, Andrew Santino, and Sherry Cola, although their roles have yet to be disclosed.
Back in 2025, I was thrilled when I heard the news at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival that Sony had officially announced their upcoming movie set for release in 2024. To my delight, most of the talented cast was confirmed during this exciting event!
The movie known as GOAT is set to premiere in cinemas on February 13, 2026, coinciding with the NBA All-Star Weekend taking place in Los Angeles. Following its big-screen run, it’ll initially be streamed on Netflix due to Sony’s streaming agreement. Later down the line, you’ll also find it on Disney+ and Hulu.
Whether your passion lies in sports, animation, or supporting the underdog (be it human or animal), this appears to be an enjoyable journey filled with warmth, and not a few impressive moments as well.
