Stellar Blade tips and tricks to breeze through the game

Originally written by George Young.

Stellar Blade, the newly released PS5-exclusive action-adventure and soulslike game, has also been launched on PC, where it’s quickly gained popularity. However, some strategies and tips for maximizing your gaming experience might not be immediately clear. Additionally, there’s one significant trap you’d rather avoid encountering.

Here’s everything you need to know before you start playing Stellar Blade.

How to switch between action adventure and soulslike

The initial launch of the game offers two options: Story mode and Normal mode difficulty. If you prefer a traditional action-adventure experience, opt for Story mode. In this setting, you’ll find it relatively straightforward to navigate between most checkpoints, although encounters with bosses may necessitate repeated attempts. If you find this too simple, you can adjust the settings to make the game more challenging by removing the Diving Suit, which will prevent the action from slowing down during evasive maneuvers.

If you enjoy the tough gameplay found in soulslikes, opt for Normal mode as your difficulty level. Upon entering Eidos-7 for the first time, you can discard Eve’s Diving Suit, leaving her only with the Skin Suit. This adjustment eliminates shields and provides a more authentic soulslike experience. To survive the Wastelands successfully, you’ll need to master your Perfect Dodge and Perfect Parry skills at this level of challenge.

Despite adjusting various settings, Stellar Blade wasn’t intended to deliver a pure souls-like gaming experience as you might expect. However, it does provide the unique advantage of being able to pause during battles, which is not a common feature in many souls-like games.

How to build Eve

In simpler terms, Eve offers a vast array of equipment and skill progression paths. For an effortless gaming experience, it’s best to concentrate on a single aspect. When expanding your skill tree, prioritize abilities such as Ambush and Blink initially, but once that’s done, you can tailor your advancement more specifically towards your preferred attack style.

For me, the Beta Skills were particularly beneficial, though Burst or Tachy could also serve their purpose. When constructing your skill set, prioritize the abilities you utilize frequently and don’t stress too much about the others. Additionally, there are Exospines and Gear that can boost your damage output and speed up the charging of your special attacks. It’s advantageous to combine these elements into a single skill rather than distributing them sparsely. If you specialize all aspects in one skill, you’ll be able to consistently utilize it without relying heavily on regular attacks.

How to quit the game

In Stellar Blade, it automatically saves at specific stages without a manual save option. To ensure your progress is secure, take breaks at campsites. If you’re curious about the latest save, exit the game via the menu and select ‘quit’. This will display the time of your last save, allowing you to decide if you need to resume saving or not.

The point of no return

In Stellar Blade, there’s no option for manual saves; instead, the game automatically saves whenever you pause or take a break. This implies that you can’t save and reload to specific points. The ‘point of no return’ is exactly as it sounds – beyond the Great Desert, a message appears advising you to complete all tasks before proceeding. What isn’t made clear is that once you finish the game, there’s no going back. You must ensure everything in the game is completed before reaching this stage.

Once you save near the final boss, you’re essentially locked in that area. You won’t be able to exit or explore further; you’ll only be able to battle the boss and complete the game. After finishing the game, you can start a New Game+, which will erase your previous save file. So, ensure you’ve accomplished all tasks you desire when this screen appears, as it’s a critical decision point. The key aspect to bear in mind is that there are additional collectible items beyond the point of no return, so make sure you’ve thoroughly explored the map before reaching this point.
