Stellar Blade sold a million units in 3 days on PC and you can mostly thank Chinese players

Have you been enjoying Stellar Blade lately? It’s quite unusual if you haven’t, given that Shift Up just announced the game has surpassed a million sales on PC within its initial three days of release!

That’s quite impressive! I must admit, I haven’t achieved anything near a million of anything in just three days either. So, my hat’s off to the team for such an accomplishment. It’s no wonder that the game found its way into Steam’s top 100 most-played games by concurrent players last weekend. On Sunday alone, it managed to grab the 81st spot with a staggering 192,078 users playing simultaneously online.

Over all gaming platforms, Stellar Blade has managed to sell 3 million copies since its launch. Given that we went on sale only a short time ago, it’s impressive to account for approximately one third of those sales. Let me tell you, PC gamers are notorious for their impulse to splurge on digital entertainment!

As a gamer, I can confidently say that the success of Stellar Blade on desktop platforms is largely thanks to China, where it seems this game has been causing quite a stir among players. The Chinese version of the PC game wasn’t available on consoles until after the PC launch. In Chinese currency (renminbi), the game costs a mere 38 yuan, making it an affordable and enticing option for many gamers in the region.

Unfortunately, our reviewer Mollie Taylor didn’t share the same enthusiasm as China seems to have for the game Stellar Blade. She awarded it 68% in her review and pointed out that while it is “one of the smoothest, most optimized PC games I’ve played recently,” it falls short due to a mediocre storyline, an uncomfortable tutorial level, and a sense that it doesn’t offer anything new or exceptional compared to other games in its genre. Despite these issues, she still considered it a “respectable soulslike” game, suggesting that sometimes, just being solid is enough.

Well, that and like 400 skimpy outfits and a bunch of alarmingly adult mods.
