In the vein of classic Role-Playing Games, Stellar Blade offers a unique blend of storyline and fishing mini-games, along with numerous side quests. If you’re an avid fisherman or fisherwoman, this game will undoubtedly keep you engaged, as there are many inhabitants within this world who need fish of different sizes for their various needs.
How to get the fishing rod in Stellar Blade
As a game enthusiast, I’ve found that the joy of fishing and my trusty fishing rod remain hidden gems until I reach the Great Desert, the fourth expansive region in this captivating adventure. This area becomes accessible post-midway through the journey. Upon entering the Great Desert, you have the option to head directly to the Oasis, located east of the starting point. However, it’s advisable to complete the Reboot! main quest first, as doing so will unlock essential waypoints for a smoother exploration experience.
Upon reaching the Oasis, notice a quaint wooden cabin on one side. There, Adam will share tales of his old acquaintance, Clyde, who resides within. Engage with Clydeless until you grab the fishing rod, at which point he’ll demand a demonstration of your abilities. Once you have the fishing rod in hand, make sure to outfit it for use.
Press and hold the D-pad, next move the right joystick to select the fishing rod. Now you’re all set for fishing.
All small fish locations and bait in Stellar Blade
At the heart of the vast desert lies an Oasis, where you’ll find various small fishes. Upon your initial arrival there, equipped with a fishing rod, you can successfully catch all these tiny creatures. Interestingly, they seem particularly attracted to shrimp, making it an ideal choice as bait when attempting to reel them in.
Here’s the full list of small fish you can get:
- Goldfish – one-star
- Mudskipper – one-star
- Betta – two-star
- Butterflyfish – three-star

All medium fish locations and bait in Stellar Blade
You can find all medium-sized fish in the tiny pond situated in Xion, right before the entrance to the Wasteland. These fish are particularly attracted to wiggling bait. If you want to accumulate some, just head over to Clyde at the Oasis and he should have them available for purchase.
Here’s the full list of medium fish:

All large fish locations and bait in Stellar Blade
Most commonly, the bigger species of fish are usually spotted at the pond situated close to the clock tower in Eidos 7. This location can be accessed swiftly through the Plaza fast-travel point. The larger fish tend to prefer bait such as the ‘fish slice’. Catching them becomes easier with this type of bait. However, we didn’t come across the elusive Ocean Sunfish here; instead, we caught it in the lake located in the northwestern wastelands. To enhance your chances of reeling in these fish, consider buying additional fishing research from Clyde as well.
Here is the full list of large fish:
- Mahi-Mahi – one-star
- Halibut – one-star
- Ocean Sunfish – one-star
- Sailfish – two-star
All gigantic and jumbo fish locations and bait in Stellar Blade
At the Oasis, you’ll have a chance to catch both enormous and large fish. The massive ones are drawn by specific lures, while the larger ones prefer exceptional lures. If you haven’t discovered this secret yet, our guide on exceptional lures can help. Remember, investing in more fishing research from Clyde might enhance your chances.

Stubbornness side mission and opening up Barry’s shop
As a keen angler, once I’ve landed myself a fishing rod, I’ll discover a brand new store in Xion that’s a breeze to enter. Right at the summit of my map, there’s a fresh mission marker waiting for me, leading me to Barry. A friendly chat with him will ignite the Stubbornness side quest, which is surprisingly straightforward. I can wrap it up on the spot by chatting with him once more, making my way to his shop, and offloading any three fish I’ve caught. He doesn’t seem too particular about them!
Porcupinefish location – The Wife’s Water Tank quest
Heading to the notice board will lead you to the initial fishing mission among many others. The quest titled “The Wife’s Water Tank” requires you to locate a Porcupinefish and submit it. You can find these elusive creatures in the area where you initially received your fishing rod, which is the Oasis. Since the Porcupinefish is a one-star small fish, using small shrimp as bait would be most effective. Once you’ve caught and submitted your fish, the next quest will become available.
Upon getting your fishing rod, it would be beneficial to catch a Porcupinefish initially. Additionally, you might want to snag three other small fish to give to Barry during the same trip. You can find plenty of fish in this area, and catching them won’t cause any harm as they may come in handy for a future mission.
When fishing, remember that one-star fish have no mark when caught, two-star fish have two exclamation points, while three-star fish have three exclamation points. This can be helpful if you’re trying to reel in a specific fish.
As I’m about to bid you farewell, don’t forget to chat with Clyde and pick up the “Fishing Research” and “Advanced Fishing Research.” If your pockets aren’t quite full yet, no worries! Swing by again when you accumulate more fishing points. You’ll find these essential tools before embarking on the Fish Research side mission. Trust me, they’ll make fishing a breeze in the long run.
Channel Catfish location – An Unforgettable Fish Dish quest
After finishing the task related to your spouse’s water tank, you’ll discover an extraordinary catfish recipe pinned on the bulletin board. This quest requires catching a Channel Catfish, and there are several spots where you might find one. The most convenient location is in Xion, specifically at the small pond situated close to the Wasteland entrance. The Channel Catfish is a medium-sized fish with one star, and it’s particularly fond of wiggly bait. If you run out, any type of bait can be bought from Clyde at the Oasis.
Halibut location – Fish Research quest
In my angling adventures, the upcoming task I’ve got lined up is named “Fish Research,” where I’m tasked with capturing a Halibut! To snag this elusive catch, make your way to the little pond nestled near the clock tower in Eidos 7. Once you’ve fast-traveled to the Plaza checkpoint, head down towards the clock tower. After braving a few encounters with Naytiba, you’ll find yourself at a pond where fishing is possible. The Halibut is a one-star large fish, and if you want to reel it in, make sure you have some “fish slice” bait on hand!
Fishing Maniac’s chest location – A Gift for a Fishing Maniac quest
Once I wrap up my Fish Research endeavor, there’s an exciting side quest waiting for me on the town bulletin board – “A Fishing Maniac’s Delight”! Unlike other fishing tasks, this one doesn’t call for catching a particular species; instead, it challenges you to discover and unlock a treasure chest. The map will guide you to its hidden location, nestled in the northwest corner of the Wastelands. When I reach that spot, I’ll come across a narrow entrance carved into the cliffside, leading to a secluded lake tucked away behind it.
Descend into the lake below and deploy your drone’s scanner for a visual on the box you are seeking. Once you reach the box, input the code 0508 to unlock it. This will grant you the final component of the Fishing Research project.
Fantastic Bait location – Where is the Fantastic Bait quest
Upon completing a present for the avid fisherman, you’ll initiate the “Where’s the Marvelous Lure?” quest. This intricate journey involves several steps. Primarily, you must catch a total of 20 distinct species of fish and then revisit Clyde. Once conversing with him, you can inquire about the Marvelous Lure. Subsequently, speak to Roxanne at Xion to acquire information regarding the lure. This exchange will provide you with the location of the chest housing the bait as well as the code to unlock it.
The treasure chest is found within the deserted factory in the southeastern part of the Wastelands. Descend and input the correct code to unlock the chest, thereby claiming the Incredible Lure. Note that only a single lure will be granted, but this singular item can be used an infinite number of times.
Whale Shark location – The Fish of Legends quest
With the extraordinary lure at hand, you’re all ready to accomplish your fishing tasks. The final task is called “The Legendary Fish” where you’ll be asked to catch a Whale Shark. You can capture this giant by heading back to the Oasis and using the extraordinary lure for fishing here. In this location, there are two massive fish species: the three-star Whale Shark, and the three-star Dunkleosteus. As previously stated, the extraordinary lure can be used multiple times, so if you continue to catch Dunkleosteus, just persist, and eventually, you’ll secure the Whale Shark.
When I get back to the noticeboard to wrap up this quest, I’ll have finished every fishing mission under the sun. The sweet reward? A coveted Legendary Fish Badge!
All fish caught reward in Stellar Blade
Should you manage to net all the fish and converse with Clyde once more, he’ll bestow upon you an extraordinary ensemble known as the “Ocean Maid attire”. He mentions that this outfit is designed for aquatic activities, but it won’t enhance your swimming speed any further.
