Stardock reveals Elemental: Reforged for PC

Stardock Entertainment recently unveiled Elemental: Reforged, a PC-based 4X strategy game. This new title is an update of the 2010 game, Elemental: War of Magic, and it blends features from other series installments like Fallen Enchantress and Sorcerer King. Essentially, it’s a remastered version with substantial improvements.

Elemental: War of Magic was initially a grand strategy game packed with robust features, yet it encountered significant technical issues upon release, leaving the connections among its mechanics somewhat fragmented – an issue that Stardock acknowledges persisted even today.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Elemental: Reforged is about to run on a cutting-edge engine, which Stardock believes will at last bring out the game’s full potential. Brad Wardell, the original title’s creator and current CEO of Stardock, promises that Reforged will embody the design we always envisioned back then – a realization of our original vision.

In the process of creating Elemental, we discovered that the initial design wasn’t compatible with a 32-bit game. We scaled it back and transformed it into Elemental: War of Magic, but even then, it faced challenges fitting within 32-bit memory. Subsequently, we developed Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, which improved upon its predecessor, yet still didn’t meet our original design goals. Our next attempt was Elemental: Sorcerer King, where we emphasized the crafting and quest aspects of the original plan. Finally, by upgrading the engine to 64-bits, we can now create the complete game as we initially envisioned back in 2008.

The Elemental series is famous for offering players a significant amount of flexibility in gameplay, essentially functioning as a strategic sandbox. By utilizing a role-playing game (RPG) design system, you can construct characters and troops from the ground up and undertake narrative-focused missions that impact global diplomacy and politics. The upcoming Reforged edition will offer an improved version of the original’s modding tools and compatibility with Steam Workshop.
