Stardew Valley Creator Is Open to a Sequel, But Prefers Updates

Fans of farming simulation games adore Stardew Valley, and frequently inquire about the prospect of a follow-up game. In a recent interview on the TigerBelly podcast, its creator, Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, voiced his opinions on the matter.

Barone mentioned that although a Stardew Valley 2 could potentially be developed in the future, for now it’s more feasible to focus on updates for the current game. He pointed out that the core systems of the game are already established, making it easier to introduce fresh content rather than beginning an entirely new project from scratch.

During a recent podcast, Barone mentioned, “It’s possible that Stardew Valley 2 could be in the works someday. Developing an entirely new game can be quite challenging compared to expanding on what’s already been created. After all, the foundational systems are already set up – those aren’t exactly enjoyable tasks. When I release updates, it’s like casually tossing in new features – ‘how about some green rain?’

Additionally, Barone mentioned that he’d like to move beyond being known just as ‘the Stardew Valley creator‘. One step towards this goal is his current work on a new game called Haunted Chocolatier, where he’s putting in effort and focus right now.

In contrast to Stardew Valley, this novel venture steers clear of farming and instead invites players into the role of managing a chocolate store, offering a variety of additional activities alongside it.

At present, it appears that Barone is focusing on enlarging Stardew Valley through updates, as well as exploring a project unrelated to it. Players can anticipate additional content for their cherished game, and concurrently stay tuned for the upcoming reveal of Haunted Chocolatier.
