STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Cancelled, No Season Two

As a long-time Star Wars enthusiast who’s witnessed the highs and lows of the galaxy far, far away on the small screen, I must say, the cancellation of The Acolyte feels like a bitter taste in my Wookiee roast. While I appreciate the unpredictability that comes with the Disney+ era, it seems the Force was not strong enough to save this series.

In this Disney+ era of television, the fate of shows can be unpredictable and ever-changing. Who would have guessed that Loki would receive a second season? If Obi-Wan Kenobi had been an enormous success, it might have earned a follow-up too. Each season could potentially be its last. Yet, Star Wars: The Acolyte was intended to span multiple seasons, making its cancellation…not exactly surprising, but perhaps an indication that Lucasfilm is paying closer attention to audience feedback than we initially realized.

According to Deadline’s recent report, this news arrives approximately a month after the conclusion of The Acolyte’s solitary season. This intriguing series, set within the High Republic era and focusing on an established Jedi Order confronting a fresh menace, enjoyed a robust initial premiere week but saw its streaming ratings decline gradually in subsequent weeks.

Despite receiving online backlash prior to its release due to its lesbian showrunner and diverse cast, as well as changes to established storylines and characters dying in the first season, the series struggled to keep viewers. Showrunner Lesley Headland proposed ideas for a second season, but these plans were not realized.
