For enthusiasts of “The Acolyte” who are eagerly anticipating Season 2, their wait continues. In the interim, they might find solace in a fresh young adult novel about Star Wars that was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration.
At the Star Wars Celebration Japan, it was announced that “Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown” is a prequel novel for young adults, written by Tessa Gratton. This story revolves around characters Jecki (played by Dafne Keen) and Yord (Charlie Barnett), with Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) making an appearance as well.
It seems that we haven’t had the last word from Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar yet! Tessa Gratton introduces a fresh young-adult novel starring three beloved characters from her Acolyte series. This exciting new story, taking place before the series events and featuring Master Sol as well, will be released on July 29, 2025.
As it is a prequel that means it won’t featured Amandla Stenberg’s characters. Sorry, stans.
The listing on Amazon also compares it to Hunger Games meets Star Wars:
Experience an electrifying journey starring beloved Jedi apprentices Jecki and Yord, hailing from the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: The Acolyte. As their Jedi Masters navigate a political crisis triggered by one of their peers, Jecki and her least preferred fellow Padawan Yord are unwillingly roped into a planetary rite of passage. However, when events take an alarming turn lethal, Jecki and Yord must rely on all their skills and collaborate to ensure the safety of themselves, their new companions, and each other.
This young adult novel blends the Star Wars universe with The Hunger Games’ intrigue, allowing fans of The Acolyte an opportunity to delve deeper into two beloved characters from the series.
What happened with The Acolyte?
According to a Disney executive, the reason for canceling “The Acolyte” was that it didn’t attract enough viewers. It’s believed that the poor performance of this show may have caused some Star Wars fans to abandon Disney+ and avoid tuning in for “Skeleton Crew,” another series on the platform which also underperformed.
Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, explained that due to the cost structure associated with the production of “The Acolyte,” it wasn’t financially feasible to produce a second season. In simpler terms, he stated that the costs were too high for the return they would receive, so they chose not to proceed with making another season.
Amandla Stenberg faced criticism after posting a controversial rage-twerking video during a live stream, which some found problematic. Furthermore, she attributed her show’s lower viewership to the audience, as The Acolyte attracted only about 75% fewer viewers than The Mandalorian.
