The upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter will feature Jedi and lightsaber battles, as revealed in a recent New York Times interview with director Shawn Levy.
Confirmed On Set
The article describes a visit to the filming location in November, where Levy was directing a lightsaber fight scene that took place in water.
The director mentioned that Tom Cruise unexpectedly visited the set and enthusiastically joined in filming a portion of the scene. Director Levy playfully asked for his help, and Cruise happily obliged, even wading into a muddy pond to capture the perfect shot.
Director Shawn Levy mentioned that Steven Spielberg visited recently, and now Tom Cruise is operating a camera on set, much to the dismay of his footwear.
The article notes:
I heard this amazing story about Tom Cruise being on set. Apparently, he just wanted to observe, but Jon Favreau – I think it was Favreau – was setting up this water scene with lightsabers. He jokingly suggested Tom operate one of the cameras, and you won’t believe it – Tom actually did it! He waded right into this muddy pond and handled the camera like he’d been doing it for years. It was apparently a total surprise to everyone.
Levy mentioned that when the movie comes out in 2027, audiences will know Tom was involved in filming some of it, which he called “really cool.”

Jedi Confirmed
Although Lucasfilm hasn’t revealed much about the plot, they’ve now officially confirmed that Jedi and lightsabers will appear in the upcoming game, Star Wars: Starfighter.
Earlier reports suggested Amy Adams would play a Jedi, with Flynn Gray portraying her son who also has a connection to the Force. Ryan Gosling’s character was said to be tasked with keeping them safe.

Release Date
The cast of Star Wars: Starfighter includes Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.
The film is directed by Shawn Levy and is set for theatrical release on May 28, 2027.
