‘Star Wars’ Reveals More Information About Yoda’s Past

As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I can confidently say that the revelation about Yoda’s master, N’Kata Del Gormo, is a fascinating addition to the rich lore of the galaxy far, far away. Growing up watching the original trilogy, I always wondered about the enigmatic Jedi Master who trained Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it was only with the prequels that we started to scratch the surface of Yoda’s past.

The iconic character, Yoda, is renowned and beloved among fictional figures. Introduced in “The Empire Strikes Back”, Yoda has since become a cornerstone of the franchise, particularly following the Prequel Trilogy where more details about his story were unveiled, cementing his strength as a character.

Although we’re well-versed in Yoda’s actions and character, the enigma surrounding him, particularly his past and origins, remains one of Star Wars’ greatest mysteries. Fans eagerly anticipate that The Mandalorian might shed light on Yoda through Grogu’s background, but so far, those expectations haven’t been met.

Until then, though, the fans can enjoy some new revelations about Yoda’s past, as a new canon book confirms a long-speculated Legends fact about one of Yoda’s masters, which will certainly be of interest to the fans, and that is why we are reporting on it.

In terms of Yoda’s character, it’s well-known that he is regarded as the most powerful Jedi, with one of the strongest presences among all Star Wars characters. Although his fame was subtly suggested in the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy filled in the details, making it clear that Yoda is indeed a formidable character within the entire franchise. However, while we have insights into the Republic and Empire, Yoda’s history spans over nine centuries, with roots tracing back to an era before the Prequel Trilogy.

It’s commonly understood that Yoda received training from multiple masters, including many ancient Jedi Masters. These esteemed mentors imparted the mysteries of the Force onto Yoda. Interestingly, in the old Legends universe, there was a character named N’Kata Del Gormo, who was believed to have been Yoda’s master at some point.

As a devoted Star Wars fan, I’ve always been captivated by the elusive figure of N’Kata Del Gormo – a four-armed Jedi Master, serpentine in form, who it’s said mentored Yoda during his early years. Previously, the details were somewhat hazy within the Legends realm, but with the publication of the new book, Star Wars: Mace Windu, The Glass Abyss by Steven Barnes, we now have confirmation that the Legends universe was correct in this instance. This means that N’Kata Del Gormo’s role in training Yoda has officially become part of Star Wars canon!

In the book narrated from Mace Windu’s viewpoint, it becomes clear that N’Kata Del Gormo was one of Yoda’s former masters. Regrettably, not much else has been disclosed, leaving both Yoda and N’Kata Del Gormo as intriguing mysteries. However, this information is now considered canon, and we have officially confirmed that one of Yoda’s old mentors exists. We can only hope that the Star Wars universe sheds more light on N’Kata Del Gormo in the future. For the time being, here are some facts about the character:

In lore, it’s said that N’Kata Del Gormo was a Hysalrian who is believed to have been one of the first teachers of Yoda, a renowned Grand Master in the Jedi Order. While Yoda was relatively tight-lipped about his early years, he eventually became a Jedi Master and started training other Jedi around 796 BBY. By the year 32 BBY, Yoda had a sand sculpture of the Hysalria system within his living quarters at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. That year, as Mace Windu entered Yoda’s chambers, he spotted the star system in the sculpture and subtly recalled the tale about N’Kata Del Gormo teaching Yoda. However, Yoda, disregarding the sculpture, used his powers to transform the sand into a beautiful Alderaanian rose using the Force.
