Exodus is a fresh science fiction role-playing game (RPG) currently being created by Archetype Entertainment, a studio owned by Wizards of the Coast. This studio was established by James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, veterans from Bioware who have worked on games such as ‘Star Wars: The Old Republic’ and ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’.
2023 saw the unveiling of the game during The Game Awards, with renowned actor Matthew McConaughey stepping into the gaming world for the first time by publicly announcing his role in the project, thereby making his entrance to the video game industry.
During a question-and-answer session on YouTube, Ohlen and Robertson delved into the game’s background story and the origins of a significant group called The Travelers. Ohlen explained that The Travelers is an organization dedicated to discovering fragments and improving their world, playing a crucial role in the intellectual property of the game.
Robertson pointed out that although The Travelers borrow some ideas from the Jedi in ‘Star Wars’, they don’t follow a central council. Instead, they work individually but are united by their shared objective: safeguarding humanity.
According to its official site, the storyline of the game suggests that humans have left a deteriorating Earth and established a new life in a dangerous galaxy. The players take on the character of the Traveler, who serves as humanity’s last chance in their struggle for existence in this epic fight for survival.
Based on their past work on ‘Star Wars’ series, it appears that ‘Star Wars’ may have played a role in shaping the development process of ‘Exodus’. Yet, the distinctive traits of ‘The Travelers’ suggest that this game aspires to present a new perspective on traditional topics.
Since ‘Exodus’ is currently under construction, specifics regarding its launch date and play style haven’t been disclosed just yet. However, given that it boasts involvement from seasoned game developers and draws inspiration from classic sci-fi themes, there’s a lot of excitement building within the gaming community about this upcoming title.
