STAR WARS: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Expands Its Timeline

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is considered one of Disney’s most impressive theme park areas. Since it opened in 2019, some fans have wished the land wasn’t limited to a single period in the Star Wars story – specifically, the time between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Disney has made a few adjustments to the timeline recently, and now they’re making a much bigger change. Starting April 29th, the Disneyland version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will include stories and characters from other eras of Star Wars, including the original trilogy. Currently, these updates only affect the park in Anaheim, California, and not the one in Orlando, Florida.

Guests will soon encounter Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo alongside familiar faces like Chewbacca and R2-D2. Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers will also be patrolling! New adventures will unfold at Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, exploring different periods in the planet’s history – from the Galactic Civil War and the New Republic to the Age of Resistance. Rey and the characters from the sequel trilogy will still be found near Rise of the Resistance, which isn’t changing. The marketplace will feature characters from the New Republic era, including Mando, Grogu, and Ahsoka Tano.

During a recent event at Disneyland, a reporter asked if characters from the Star Wars prequel era and Clone Wars series might appear in the updated land. The Imagineers explained they want the area to constantly change and grow, but their current focus is on the original trilogy. Luke Skywalker’s outfit will be his Jedi robes as seen in Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian, and Han Solo will wear his iconic vest from the original films. Leia Organa’s costume will be inspired by her look in recent Star Wars comics. While the focus is currently on the classic era, the Imagineers haven’t ruled out the possibility of seeing characters like Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padme, and Darth Maul in the future.

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will now enjoy classic music by John Williams woven into the atmosphere. As you enter the land through the tunnels, you’ll hear the iconic Star Wars Main Title and Force Theme. Other well-known pieces include music associated with Han Solo and Princess Leia from The Empire Strikes Back, scenes from A New Hope, and Return of the Jedi. Inside Oga’s Cantina, you’ll even be able to hear the famous Cantina Band song.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about some changes coming to Galaxy’s Edge! First Order Cargo is getting a makeover and becoming Black Spire Surplus, which sounds way cooler – it’s like a galactic salvage yard full of artifacts from both the Empire and the Rebellion. Apparently, it’s run by two clone owners who fought on opposite sides – how awesome is that? They’re also adding more storytelling elements to places like Dok-Ondar’s and Droid Depot. And good news for lightsaber builders – Savi’s Workshop is sticking around, but they’re making the experience more tied to specific eras in the Star Wars timeline. You’ll still be able to create your own custom lightsaber, which is a must-do for me every time I visit!

I’m so excited for the updates coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland! They start on April 29th, and it’s just a few weeks before Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run gets a really cool makeover based on The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22nd.
