In 1977, George Lucas revolutionized the movie world by launching Star Wars. Although it was evident from the start that he had a successful film, no one could have foreseen its evolution into the massive franchise it has become today. Over the years, sequels, spin-offs, TV series, books, and numerous other forms of media have expanded the distant galaxy we’re familiar with now.

As fans eagerly anticipate new releases such as multiple films and animated series like “Star Wars: Visions Volume 3” and “Maul: Shadow Lord,” Lucasfilm is gearing up to take us back in time. The classic film, originally known simply as “Star Wars,” will be coming back to theaters for its 50th anniversary in 2027. While details about this re-release are scarce, it’s been mentioned that 2027 will see a “50th anniversary celebration” lasting an entire year from Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: A New Hope is coming back to cinemas globally from April 30, 2027, and yes, it will be shown on May the Fourth (May 4) too! Keep an eye out for more information about ticket sales as Lucasfilm gets ready for its 50th anniversary festivities.
