The marketing for Starfleet Academy hasn’t been very strong so far. The recently released poster looks more like an advertisement for a teen drama like Beverly Hills 90210 or One Tree Hill than a Star Trek series. It made many wonder if this long-awaited show would simply be Star Trek: The Teen Drama. However, the first clip offers a glimpse of traditional Star Trek action, showing the Captain and her crew responding to an attack. We also see Robert Picardo return as the holographic Doctor from Voyager, who is still operating 800 years after his initial activation. This is a clever way to connect the classic Trek universe with the new series, adding a sense of history and continuity.
A Starfleet Academy series has been discussed for over three decades. It started as an idea for a film featuring young Kirk and Spock, and later, when The Next Generation became popular, there were plans for a spin-off starring Wesley Crusher. However, those plans never materialized. Now, a new Starfleet Academy series is finally happening, and will debut on Paramount+ on January 15, 2026. The question is, will it live up to the long-held expectations?
