Discovery” spin-off film featuring Michelle Yeoh, titled “Section 31“, has been heavily criticized and disliked by both critics and viewers alike.
It seems that Section 31 is receiving such poor reviews (as I haven’t seen it personally), that IGN has given it a score of just “2”.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series titled Section 31 presently holds a 24% rating from professional critics after 33 reviews. Meanwhile, among fans, it’s rated at just 18%, based on more than 250 evaluations.
What do the critics say?
Critics have heavily criticized the movie “Star Trek: Section 31,” stating that it’s a jumbled mess that falls short of capturing what makes “Star Trek” unique. They found it slow-paced, shallow, and tonally inconsistent, often labeling it as an unsuccessful attempt to capitalize on the franchise without providing any depth. The film was described as dull, disorganized, and at times, tedious, with repetitive action scenes and a lack of compelling storytelling. Many reviewers felt that it didn’t feel like a “Star Trek” movie, instead appearing to be a failed attempt at edgy sci-fi. While Michelle Yeoh’s charm was recognized, even she couldn’t save the film from being seen as a desperate imitator or what some called a hollow, pointless project aimed at boosting Paramount+ subscriptions. In summary, it’s generally viewed as a disappointing addition to the franchise and a low point in its history.

I strongly believe that no one who was involved in creating Star Trek: Section 31, whether as a pitcher, commissioner, writer, producer, editor, or director, should be given another opportunity to work in the entertainment industry. The quality of this series was so dismal, it makes me question whether the Borderlands movie could have actually found self-loathing.
