As a lifelong Trekkie who’s been following the saga since the original series premiered, I can confidently say that the upcoming events in Star Trek #28 have me more excited than a Klingon at bat’leth practice! The multiverse-shattering antics of Lore promise to take our favorite franchise to new and uncharted territories.
As a dedicated fan myself, I can confidently say that the rich history of science fiction has produced countless masterpieces, yet none have left an indelible mark like “Star Trek” does for so many of us. While there are other formidable contenders, it’s the passion and conviction of Trekkies that makes “Star Trek” stand out as the undisputed king of science fiction franchises.
It’s indisputable that “Star Trek” has served as a cornerstone for contemporary science fiction, pushing boundaries and innovating within the genre across multiple dimensions. What’s impressive is that despite its age, the franchise continues to thrive and consistently generates fresh content in diverse mediums.
Today, we’ll discuss some highly anticipated comic book storylines, notably those published by IDW. One of these releases could significantly shape the future of the Star Trek series in an exciting new direction!
Recently, we shared an update about the convergence of the Prime and Kelvin universes happening in Star Trek #25 – a significant installment within the “When the Walls Fell” narrative saga.
In the aftermath of the Prime Universe’s destruction at the hands of Lore, Captain Benjamin Sisko found himself transported into the Kelvin Universe – the setting for the latest movie trilogy headlined by Chris Pine. The narrative now unfolds, and it appears to be heading towards an even more ominous direction.
In the sneak peek for the upcoming “Star Trek #28,” penned by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly with art by Tess Fowler, we see that Lore plans to annihilate the entire Multiverse. We can only guess how this catastrophic event will unfold.
In the aftermath of Lore’s devastating actions, the future hangs in the balance, resting on Benjamin Sisko’s shoulders. However, upon the U.S.S. Theseus’ encounter with the Celestial Temple, Sisko finds himself stranded… devoid of his crew and advanced technology… in a Bronze Age Bajor. The native Bajorans are baffled by this stranger: Is he a formidable enemy or the long-awaited prophet? For Sisko to preserve all life from the Orb of Destruction, he must first ensure his own survival.
If you find yourself perplexed by the terminology, let me briefly explain the primary realms within the Star Trek multiverse for your convenience.
A Guide to the Star Trek Multiverse | ||
---|---|---|
Designation | First Appearance | Notes |
Prime | “The Cage” | The main Star Trek timeline |
Mirror | “Mirror, Mirror” | The Mirror Universe, home of the Terran Empire |
Kelvin | Star Trek | Created through “the Narada Incursion.” |
It’s clear that if Lore’s scheme succeeds – which appears likely, temporarily at least – the entire Multiverse stands to be annihilated. The repercussions of such an outcome are undeniably disastrous, a fact I think everyone can appreciate.
Absolutely, it’s on the Captain’s shoulders to thwart the villain, and we can’t wait to find out how the story unfolds. This particular plotline appears to be one of the more exciting stories in the annals of Star Trek comics.
Even though I’m eagerly waiting, I’ll need to patiently hold off until January 22 when Star Trek #28 hits the shelves from IDW Publishing. In the meantime, stay tuned with us for updates!
