Spider-Noir: Nicolas Cage Shown Off As Ben Reilly

Actor Nicolas Cage has been seen filming for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, “Spider-Man: Noir,” which is set in 1930s New York City. Known for his voice work as Spider-Man Noir in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Cage will now play Ben Reilly in this live-action adaptation.

What We Know About Cage’s Ben Reilly

In Marvel Comics, Ben Reilly is initially a clone of Spider-Man (Peter Parker). Although the official series doesn’t delve deeply into his background, it suggests that he might have connections to a world reminiscent of film noir. On the set, Cage was spotted donning a smart gray three-piece suit, contributing to the vintage 1930s ambiance.

In keeping with the series’ darker mood, depicting Ben Reilly as an aging detective struggling with his dual identity as a superhero, Cage’s talent for combining intensity and depth is anticipated to make him a memorable character in this alternate Spider-Man world.

Series Setting and Plot

Spider-Man: Noir offers a gritty reinterpretation of the Spider-Man saga, set against the backdrop of Depression-era New York City. Instead of the usual superhero tale, it centers around a seasoned detective who previously defended the city as its lone superhero. This series operates independently from Peter Parker’s conventional narrative, establishing its own unique universe.

The presence of Cage working alongside a skilled group, featuring Lamorne Morris portraying Robbie Robertson, hints at the show delving into intricate characters and societal interactions during 1930s America. The character of Robertson, depicted as a relentless journalist shattering boundaries as a successful Black professional, adds depth to the series’ noir atmosphere.

The series boasts an impressive lineup:

In the background, it’s Oren Uziel who takes the helm as the main scriptwriter. The executive producers include Amy Pascal and the duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, renowned for their work on Sony’s Spider-Man animated movies.
