A recent TV spot for the animated series featuring Spider-Noir revealed more of Nicolas Cage’s take on the character. The brief video, shown in the US, included scenes not previously seen in the initial trailer.
This series takes place in 1930s New York, but instead of Peter Parker, it focuses on Ben Reilly. In a new scene, Reilly appears with bruises on his face. When Cat Hardy, played by Li Jun Li, asks him what happened, he jokingly claims he “walked into a door.” However, the scene quickly reveals he was actually injured in fights with gangsters.
The trailer gives a better glimpse of the villain Electro, showing him attacking Luke Cage with an electric weapon. It also includes more footage of Sandman (Jack Huston) and Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson), confirming the series will feature several iconic villains from the comic books.

The movie’s action sequences showcase a quick and forceful main character. Nicolas Cage’s acting blends the feel of a traditional detective with his signature energetic style. He’s described his portrayal as being inspired by both Humphrey Bogart (70%) and Bugs Bunny (30%), hinting at a character who is mostly serious but also surprisingly funny.
I was surprised to see Nicolas Cage take on the role of Ben Reilly after voicing Spider-Man in Into the Spider-Verse, but it actually makes a lot of sense. The show’s writer, Oren Uziel, told Esquire they wanted someone who felt beyond the typical ‘high school kid’ Peter Parker. He explained that Ben Reilly has lived a full life, gone through everything, and is a hero carrying that weight. It’s clear this series isn’t interested in an origin story; they’re giving us a Spider-Man who’s seen some things, and Cage seems perfectly cast to portray that weariness.
The show will be available in color and black-and-white. It starts streaming on Prime Video on May 27th, but MGM Plus subscribers can watch it two days earlier, beginning May 25th.
