Sophie Turner Unveils Her Fierce New Lara Croft Transformation in Latest ‘Tomb Raider’ Set Photos

Fans are getting their first good look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in new photos from the set of the upcoming Prime Video series, Tomb Raider. The pictures show Turner filming a dramatic nighttime scene in Surrey, England. It was a rainy night, and she was filmed running through a forest while performing a fight scene.

The scene shows Turner running across uneven terrain while holding a knife. She looks hurt and incredibly tired. She manages to escape on a motorbike driven by Martin Bobb-Semple, who portrays the character Zip. Zip is a key member of Lara Croft’s team in the Tomb Raider games, serving as her tech specialist and trusted ally.

The series is set to debut on Prime Video in 2027. Production is already underway.

Turner has publicly discussed the extensive preparation she undertook for the role. In a ScreenRant interview, she revealed that her training began well before filming started, as early as February 2025. She’s been training for almost a year and will begin shooting in January. She expressed excitement and confidence, noting her strong working relationship with Amazon and believing the upcoming Tomb Raider film will be exceptional.

During an interview on The Julia Cunningham Show, she discussed how physically challenging the training has been. She explained they’ve been working out for eight hours a day, five days a week, since February of the previous year. She also revealed she discovered she has a long-term back issue, but noted it’s easier to gain muscle if you’ve exercised before – something she hadn’t done previously. As a result, it took her many months to get into shape.

Sophie Turner is famous for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, but she notes that the character didn’t require much physical training. She explained that Sansa was more of a regal figure who avoided fighting, and often ended up on the receiving end of violence. Turner enjoys learning how to fight for this new role, as she was previously only playing characters who were victims, not aggressors.

The latest series reimagines Lara Croft as a more resilient and realistic character. It emphasizes practical action and her struggle to survive, with early glimpses showing a more strategic and believable portrayal.
