Sony recently shared a report about its gaming division with investors, providing a general update on the activities of its in-house studios. The information isn’t overly detailed but it’s clear that just four of Sony’s internal studios are currently engaged in live-service game development: Bungie, Sony San Diego, Haven, and teamLFG.
Bungie is currently developing their extraction shooter, Marathon, scheduled for release in September 2025. Meanwhile, teamLFG, a relatively new entity, is working on a still unspecified team-oriented action game. Sony San Diego consistently launches MLB The Show each year, whereas Haven Studio is focusing on creating Fairgame$, Sony’s unique interpretation of the heist genre. This upcoming project will be available for both PC and PS5 platforms.
A larger proportion of Sony’s development team focuses on creating single-player games, with these studios specifically involved: [List the studios]
- Insomniac Games
- Housemarque
- Team Asobi
- Naughty Dog
- Sucker Punch
- Sony Santa Monica
- Firesprite
Six additional studios are currently developing “versatile/cross-genre” video games, with Guerrilla Games, creators of the Horizon series, being one of them.
Sony has identified Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 as its major releases for the current fiscal year, while Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic are expected to take on this role in the coming times. For future live-service endeavors, the spotlight is on Marathon for FY25, with Fairgame$ planned to continue the momentum.
In simpler terms, Sony claimed victory in the current console competition, stating they have secured a dominant role in this generation’s consoles. This advantageous position serves as a launching pad for Sony to extend its popular franchises beyond just gaming platforms, including PC, television shows, films, and anime productions.
