Sony Unveils Soneium Mainnet, Aims for Expansion in Web3 Entertainment and Finance

As a researcher involved in the project, I’m thrilled to share that the Sony Block Solutions Labs collaboration with Web3 infrastructure provider Startale has successfully debuted our innovative blockchain platform: Soneium. In an official announcement on January 14th, we unveiled the launch of Soneium’s mainnet. This marks a significant milestone in our journey to redefine the landscape of blockchain technology.

Soneium Blockchain Goes Mainnet After Successful Testnet Phase

As a researcher, I’m thrilled to share that the progression of Sonneium has been remarkable, marked by a phase of triumphant testing. During this period, our platform garnered an impressive number of 15 million active wallets, along with over 47 million transactions conducted on it.

Today marks the debut of the Soneium Mainnet, opening a new phase in our plan. Our ambition is to create an open internet that surmounts borders by bridging cultural divides and integrating individuals into the blockchain ecosystem, as stated by Sony.

Soneium aims to provide practical applications across entertainment, gaming, and finance.

According to Sony Block Solutions Labs Director Sota Watanabe, our goal with Soneium is straightforward yet challenging: it’s about constructing an open internet that encourages free and fair creative expression, and empowering the next generation of users to explore web3.

As per Blockscout’s latest findings, the Soneium blockchain currently boasts a total of approximately 6.8 million blocks, with an average interval between blocks being just 2 seconds. Furthermore, the number of contracts on this platform has reached a staggering 7.3 million.

In August 2024, Sony unveiled plans for their own public blockchain, which they called “Soneium.” Shortly following this announcement, the team initiated the launch of the test network, named “Soneium Minato.

In this experimental setting, developers and creators were given the opportunity to delve into the particular details of the network prior to its deployment in a live environment. This enabled developers to trial their applications, whereas end users could interact with and utilize these applications through online wallets.

As an analyst, I’ve had the opportunity to witness a diverse array of applications being developed on Soneium Minato. Out of over 1,700 submissions to the “Soneium Spark” incubation program, 32 exceptional projects have been successfully built and launched. Moreover, independent creators have further enriched the platform with a plethora of additional apps. These range from entertainment and gaming applications to NFTs, social platforms, and financial tools.

From now on, the operational stage for Soneium has been formally activated, welcoming the public. Given that the network settings are similar to those of Soneium Minato, applications tested earlier can smoothly adapt to this live environment.

In an effort to broaden its influence, Soneium is working on creating various infrastructural services designed to enhance user interaction and ease of use.

Dream Solutions unveiled their Fan Marketing Platform as well. This platform, crafted by SNFT Inc., serves as a comprehensive aid for businesses embarking on Non-Fungible Token (NFT) projects. It assists in every stage, including implementation and evaluation.

Furthermore, the cryptocurrency trading platform S.BLOX will assist creators and businesses in discovering fresh prospects. Following its 2023 purchase of the Japanese crypto exchange WhaleFin, Sony rebranded it to S.BLOX, marking its entrance into the Web3 space.

In an exciting turn of events, I, as a researcher, am thrilled to announce our recent partnership with Chainlink. This alliance signifies a significant step for us, as we will be integrating Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol as the backbone of our cross-chain infrastructure.
