SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 Delays Release Date to December 2027

The popular Sonic the Hedgehog movies are continuing! According to The Hollywood Reporter, a fourth Sonic film is now scheduled to hit theaters on December 22, 2027 – a slight push from its original release date in March 2027. Given the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which earned almost $500 million worldwide with a $122 million budget, this isn’t unexpected. The Sonic movies have become a consistent source of revenue for Paramount Pictures since the pandemic. Ben Schwartz is expected to reprise his role as the voice of Sonic.

It’s unclear if Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will stick to its current release date. Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars, the final film in the Multiverse Saga, is scheduled to come out just a few days earlier on December 17th. However, a new Sonic movie could be a smart move, especially since the films are popular with families. The first Sonic movie faced a lot of criticism before it was released, mainly because fans didn’t like the initial character design. But Paramount revised the design before the film came out, and it ended up being a surprisingly successful hit, released just before the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Who will be back for the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie? We’re pretty sure Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik, Sonic’s biggest enemy. The Sonic films have given Carrey a career boost, and he’s a major draw for the live-action movies, so it’s unlikely he’ll miss this one. James Marsden is also expected to return as Tom Wachowski, Sonic’s adoptive father. There’s even a chance Keanu Reeves might come back as Shadow the Hedgehog. We’ll likely hear more about the cast for the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog film in the coming months.
