Paramount Pictures has announced release dates for upcoming movies based on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Sonic the Hedgehog,” as part of a larger plan for several new films in the coming years.
A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is scheduled for release on November 17, 2028. The film will combine live actors with computer-generated animation, offering a family-friendly adventure featuring Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo.
It’s been a while since a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie – the last one came out in 2016 and wasn’t a big hit. Paramount then tried animation, which proved successful with the 2023 film, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” Another animated sequel is already planned for release on September 17, 2027.
Paramount announced a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie, currently without a title, scheduled for December 22, 2028. This film is in addition to “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” which is expected to come out in early 2027.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies are a huge success for Paramount, with the first three films grossing over $1 billion globally. Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the popular Sonic the Hedgehog movies for the studio, is also producing this new Turtles film.
In addition to announcing plans for 2028, Paramount will re-release the original “Top Gun” movie in theaters on May 13, 2026, to mark its 40th anniversary.
The 1986 movie Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Tony Scott, was the year’s biggest hit. Cruise reprised his role in the 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, which became Paramount Pictures’ most successful film ever.
Paramount hasn’t revealed what the new “Sonic” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movies will be about. They’ve only said that both franchises will be back in a big way.
