The fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie is now being filmed! Director Jeff Fowler announced the start of production with a post saying, “Ready 4 Action 🎬 #SonicMovie4 now filming. In Theaters Worldwide March 2027.”
Jeff Fowler confirms Sonic 4 is now filming
Fowler posted the update on social media alongside a behind-the-scenes image from set.
The photo captures Fowler during a nighttime filming session. He’s holding a clapperboard, with a large prop hammer visible over his shoulder. A bright neon number ‘4’ is displayed on the back of his jacket, indicating the project he’s working on.

The hammer likely points to Amy Rose
In Sonic lore, a big hammer usually means one character: Amy Rose.
Amy Rose is famous for her Piko Piko Hammer, which she always uses in battle. So, when a recent Sonic image highlighted a hammer, fans immediately thought it was a reference to her.
Release window: March 2027
Fowler’s post repeats the current plan: Sonic Movie 4 hits theaters worldwide in March 2027.
That lines up with the widely reported U.S. date of March 19, 2027.
