‘So Close To My Heart’: How to Train Your Dragon Live Action Actor Shares Exciting Updates On The Film

As a long-time enthusiast of the enchanting world of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon, I must admit that the live-action adaptation has stirred a whirlwind of emotions within me. Growing up with Hiccup and his dragon Toothless, their journey of friendship, courage, and understanding was nothing short of magical.

The animated series “How to Train Your Dragon” has won over both kids and adults, and now it’s being brought to life on the big screen! A promising young talent named Mason Thames will breathe life into our beloved character Hiccup Haddock III. In a recent chat with ScreenRant, Mason shared some exciting insights about the upcoming movie while keeping details under wraps.

“Uh-oh, if I reply, I might end up in trouble. The best I can do is assure you that the wait won’t be excessive,” he joked. He shared his feelings about playing Hiccup live as an honor and emphasized that it has left a lasting impact on him, something he will always carry with him.

Thames shared that those films hold a special place in his heart, and playing Hiccup was an incredible privilege. Even though he tries to distance himself from the character, Hiccup remains a part of him. Occasionally, without realizing it, he may move or speak like Hiccup. In fact, when referring to dragons, he would mimic Hiccup’s voice. Overall, it was an inspiring and enjoyable experience for him.

Similar to its original animated adaptation, the live-action remake will depict Hiccup’s life on the Isle of Berk, a place frequently targeted by dragon raids. Consequently, Hiccup and fellow teenage Vikings are forced to participate in dragon training under Gobber.

As Hiccup grows attached to the enchanting dragon Night Fury, he comes to understand that it’s possible for dragons and people to live side by side in tranquility and unity. Actress Nico Parker is cast as a significant character and potential love interest of Hiccup.

In the animated film, Gerard Butler is set to return as Stoick the Vast, father of Hiccup and leader of the Hooligan Tribe of Berk. Nick Frost takes on the role of dragon training instructor Gobber. Julian Dennison steps into the character of Fishlegs, while Gabriel Howell portrays Snotlout. Bronwyn James and Harry Trevaldwyn will share the roles of the twin sisters Ruffnut and Tuffnut.

How to Train Your Dragon will premiere in theaters on June 13, 2025.
