Despite facing criticism over a past insensitive remark, Rachel Zegler remains appreciative towards Disney, as she portrays Snow White in their upcoming live-action remake of the 1937 animated feature. Her initial comment that the original film was “weird” led to backlash from online users.
On Thursday, March 20th, I had the privilege of gracing Good Morning America to talk about an exciting new project – a film that I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of. During the interview, I couldn’t help but express my heartfelt admiration for the studio that made this dream role a reality for me. Playing Snow White is more than just a job; it’s an honor beyond measure, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I feel incredibly grateful to experience.
Zegler expressed her enthusiasm by stating, “This one is truly exceptional for me as a devoted Disney enthusiast.” She went on to applaud the movie, expressing gratitude for having the opportunity to embody the role in an extraordinary and distinctive manner. Furthermore, she elaborated on the fresh perspective the latest film presents compared to its predecessor, offering a contemporary twist.
In other words, the film effectively revives traditional aspects while adding a contemporary spin. Yet, the unique charm of the main character’s innocence that captivated audiences decades back continues to persist on the silver screen.
Zeglar asserted that the essential elements of Snow White’s character – her empathy, feelings, and innocent nature – are central to the tale and the ethos of the Disney brand. She enthusiastically stated that the films were intended for both young audiences and the childlike spirit within everyone.
Nevertheless, it appears that aficionados of the initial film aren’t fond of the modern spin given to the princess story. The movie has been engulfed in debates, and these disputes have intensified following Zeglar’s statement and her alleged feud with co-star Gal Gadot.
During an interview with Extra, Zeglar playfully criticized the original Snow White cartoon film. “The emphasis is on her romance with a man who essentially follows her obsessively. That’s quite unusual, to say the least,” she said to the media outlet.
A flood of angry online users criticized her, labeling her as “insincere” and more, in the comments section of her social media platforms. Additionally, the controversies surrounding her have increased the potential financial risk for the movie, which was produced at a cost of around USD 250-270 million.
Snow White will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.
