After his Lightyear controversy, Snoop Dogg has changed his tune — and his cartoon.
The rapper and business owner is working with GLAAD to increase understanding of LGBTQ issues using his YouTube animated series, *Doggyland*. This collaboration follows criticism he received for comments about the Pixar movie *Lightyear*, where he said he was surprised by a same-sex couple featured in the film and the questions his grandson had about it.
From Critic to Advocate
Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg talked on the podcast The It’s Giving about a conversation with his grandson. After watching Lightyear, his grandson asked how two women could have a baby, a question Snoop admitted he couldn’t answer. A clip of the conversation became popular online before being removed from YouTube.
Snoop Dogg is partnering with GLAAD for Spirit Day, a yearly event where people wear purple to support LGBTQ youth. He joined Jeremy Beloate, a gay singer from his team on *The Voice*, to talk about stopping bullying, the importance of acceptance, and their work together.

“Love Is Love” Debuts on Doggyland
Snoop Dogg and Beloate teamed up to create a new song called “Love Is Love” for a recent episode of *Doggyland*. The song celebrates inclusivity and shows animated same-sex couples and their families.
The animated series features pups singing about how all parents are different, but their love is constant. They celebrate the uniqueness of families and believe everyone has a special role to play, finishing with a heartfelt message of love for their parents.
The rapper explained that the idea was to help children understand diverse families through music.
Snoop explained that the project tackles issues kids are facing today using music, dance, and catchy tunes. He hopes it will help them explore important questions and realize that love comes in many forms.
A Complete Turnaround
This change represents a complete shift from what Snoop Dogg said before, when he confessed he was hesitant to go to the movies after seeing Lightyear. Now, he’s actively promoting inclusivity as a core part of his public image.
Snoop Dogg shared his thoughts on family, saying it’s wonderful that children can be raised with love by parents of any kind – whether it’s a mom and dad, two moms, two dads, or any other family structure. He emphasized that love is the most important thing.
Beloate, who recently joined Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records, explained that working with them allowed him to remain authentic as an artist and connect with a new, younger audience through uplifting music.
Background: Lightyear’s Fallout
Pixar’s 2022 film, *Lightyear*, featured Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear and included a storyline about a same-sex couple. This led to controversy and protests in some countries and ultimately contributed to the film’s disappointing performance at the box office, earning only $51 million domestically during its opening weekend.
After the initial decision didn’t work out, Disney decided to bring Tim Allen back to voice Buzz Lightyear in *Toy Story 5*, which is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2026.
