‘SNL’ Cold Open Sees “Trump” Mock Santa, Slam Warner Bros., and Joke About Epstein Files

The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” began with a humorous opening sketch. James Austin Johnson, impersonating Donald Trump, poked fun at a variety of targets, including Warner Bros. Discovery and even Santa Claus.

In the sketch, Trump made a joke about the studio’s recent sale, complaining that their lot tour was terrible. He said it was just someone pointing out a tree and claiming it was from the show Pretty Little Liars, and questioned why anyone would care.

The comedic sketch, filmed on a replica of Air Force One, featured Ashley Padilla as press secretary Karoline Leavitt. The actor portraying Donald Trump made a series of shocking statements, including a joke about mixing the sleep aid Ambien with the stimulant Adderall, saying, “Tonight, I took both an Ambien and an Adderall, so we’re going to see which one wins.” He then made inappropriate comments about Leavitt, complimenting her appearance and stating, “Oh, she’s got a beautiful face and those lips that don’t quit. It’s pretty amazing that I can just openly compliment my young blonde subordinate. Look at those lips. They go like a machine gun. She liked it because I’m very nice to women.”

During the sketch, Trump imitated by actor James Austin Johnson, derisively called CNN’s Kaitlan Collins a “nasty, horrible witch” after she asked about White House strategy – a reference to past insults Trump has directed at Collins. The comedy then took a bizarre turn when a reporter inquired about events in Venezuela. Trump then presented what he claimed was “declassified footage” showing Santa Claus and his reindeer being bombed. When the reporter asked if that was Santa, Johnson, as Trump, bluntly replied, “Not anymore!”

The comedy sketch continued with Trump responding to the release of photos linked to Jeffrey Epstein. He insisted, “These photos are fake news, a Democrat hoax.” When confronted about a clearly ridiculous image featuring him, he surprisingly claimed, “They’re completely real. I love those files, I’m in them! I took a lot of great pictures.”

Josh O’Connor made his debut as host of “Saturday Night Live” on December 13th. The Emmy-winning actor, famous for his role in “The Crown,” was on the show to promote his new Netflix movie, “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” Lily Allen provided the musical entertainment, returning to the show after 16 years. This episode was special because it was the first time since 1978 that both the host and musical guest were from the United Kingdom.
