‘Skeleton Crew’ Has Worst Star Wars Ratings On Disney+: Lower Than ‘The Acolyte’

The initial Nielsen ratings for the first two episodes of the series, Skeleton Crew, have been released, showing that their viewership is lower than that of The Acolyte, Andor, and currently holding the poorest Star Wars ratings available on Disney+.

The show titled “Skeleton Crew” was not included in the Nielsen ratings that are usually activated on your Disney+ accounts when a new series premieres, much like several recent Star Wars and Marvel shows. Samba TV, which has previously withheld ratings data for these same shows, has yet to disclose any numbers. It is speculated that this decision might be due to Disney, an investor in Samba TV, preferring not to publicize the ratings, as they are believed to be poor.

Notably concerning is that Skeleton Crew aired its initial two episodes simultaneously, but surprisingly, it didn’t show up in the Nielsen rankings even after a full week had passed, allowing it to qualify.

What are the ratings?

For the week of December 2nd – 8th, Nielsen published its ratings, which included the debut of the initial two episodes of “Skeleton Crew” on December 2nd. Unfortunately, this series did not manage to secure a spot in the rankings.

In simpler terms, “The Great British Baking Show” holds the last position on Nielsen’s streaming originals list, with a total of 382 million minutes watched. Since “Skeleton Crew” didn’t even make it onto this list, its viewership was significantly less than 382 million minutes, which translates to an average of fewer than 191 million minutes per episode.

As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but be thrilled when The Acolyte premiered its first two episodes in one night, leaving quite an impression on the Nielsen ratings with a staggering total of 488 million minutes watched! That averages to approximately 244 million minutes per episode. Quite impressive, wouldn’t you agree?

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but share my excitement about the recent premiere of “Andor”. This series has truly captured the hearts of viewers, racking up an impressive total of 624 million minutes watched! That averages to a staggering 208 million minutes per episode. It’s clear that this show is striking a chord with audiences everywhere.

In comparison, the average ratings for the two episodes of Skeleton Crew are less than those of 191, failing to match both The Acolyte and Andor in their respective ratings.

Fans have become apathetic to Disney Star Wars

So, why wasn’t the television audience drawn to watch “Skeleton Crew”? Given that it was directed by Jon Watts, who also brought us Spider-Man, one might expect a fairly good show, wouldn’t they?

It appears that the enthusiasm for Star Wars among fans has waned: after Disney’s management of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Disney+ series such as The Acolyte, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian Season 3, it seems that numerous fans have lost their passion for Star Wars.

In a nutshell, having a split fanbase isn’t always detrimental; some adore it while others despise it, but even the latter group continues to tune in. However, the real issue surfaces when fans lose interest. Once that happens, they cease watching, and just as significantly, they no longer invest their money.

Fans are growing weary of the misleading information coming from actors, production studios, and Star Wars shows. It appears that the cancellation of The Acolyte may indeed have been true, causing Disney to scale back on Star Wars content available on Disney+. As a result, only one Star Wars series will be released annually moving forward. Currently, only Ahsoka Season 2 is in development, but even that is now being speculated to conclude with its second season. Andor’s second season, scheduled for release on April 22, 2025, will reportedly be its last. This seems to indicate a slowdown or possible end of Star Wars content on Disney+ following The Acolyte.
