Netflix recently unveiled the trailer for the upcoming dark comedy miniseries titled Sirens. Featuring Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Julianne Moore, this series follows the story of two sisters. One sister is mysteriously pulled into a peculiar realm inhabited by high society individuals.
In Fahy’s case, she seeks out her sibling (Alcock), but instead encounters her in the company of upper-class aristocrats, most notably Michaela Kell portrayed by Julianne Moore. The oddest aspect is that she appears content among these affluent individuals.
According to the official summary, Devon Fahy believes that her sister Simone Alcock’s bond with their boss, the mysterious figure Michaela Kell, is downright unsettling. From what we can see, Michaela seems to be operating a cult-like organization, and she appears to have an incredibly powerful grip over Simone.
In the trailer, Fahy’s character queries Alcock’s character, “You knew Dad was diagnosed with early-stage dementia, and you responded by sending a fruit basket?” Devon begins to doubt everything, particularly the property and its inhabitants who appear oddly cheerful all the time.
However, Devon finds it hard to comprehend her sister’s intense admiration for Michaela. At one instance, Devon (Fahy) remarks, “It seems my sister idolizes your wife.” To which Kevin Bacon, portraying Moore’s onscreen spouse Peter Kell, responds, “Michaela tends to have that impact on people.
As the trailer progresses, things become increasingly dramatic: from the sisters engaging in heartfelt conversations about their father complexities to Simone (Alcock) undergoing numerous emotional collapses. Yet, she stubbornly denies that she’s in any danger. At one point, Alcock shouts, “This is the happiest I’ve ever been!
Michaela’s opulent lifestyle, reminiscent of a cult, captivates Simone in much the same way as an addictive substance would. Devon tries to intervene but finds Michaela to be a tough adversary. The show is adapted from playwright Molly Smith Metzler’s work, “Elemeno Pea”, which she penned during her time at Juilliard.
Sirens will be released on May 22, 2025, on Netflix.
