‘Single White Female’ Remake Drops ‘White’ In New Title

The remake of Single White Female, starring Jenna Ortega (known from Wednesday) and Taylor Russell (Lost in Space), is still in development, but there’s been a significant update to the project.

I’m hearing some exciting news about a new project from Sony’s 3000 Pictures! It’s currently going by the title Single Female, and they’ve brought on Sarah DeLappe – the writer behind Bodies Bodies Bodies – to pen the script. Sounds promising, right?

Ortega and Russell are also attached to star and produce.

‘Single White Female’ remake gets a new title

The original 1992 movie was called Single White Female, but the new version is simply titled Single Female – a change likely made due to modern sensitivities.

The project is being developed by 3000 Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures.

Changing the title is sure to turn heads, particularly because the original name had been associated with the movie for over thirty years.

What the original movie was about

The 1992 thriller Single White Female starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The movie centers around a woman who rents a room in her apartment and begins to suspect her new roommate is acting strangely. It was inspired by the novel SWF Seeks Same by John Lutz.

The original film earned close to $200 million worldwide when adjusted for today’s money, so it’s easy to see why Sony wants to remake it with two popular young actors.
