Simu Liu Confirms Shang-Chi 2 Is Still Happening — And He’s In Secret Wars

Simu Liu confirms that a sequel to Shang-Chi is still planned, despite previous setbacks and questions about its future. He’s also looking forward to participating in two future Avengers films.

In a recent conversation, Liu assured fans that Marvel hasn’t canceled the Shang-Chi sequel, but it won’t be released for several years.

Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is still in development, though he didn’t share many details. He jokingly admitted he’s said this repeatedly, but wanted to reassure fans it’s moving forward.

Confirms Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

The actor went on to confirm that Shang-Chi survives Doomsday and appears in Secret Wars.

He also hinted at upcoming projects, specifically mentioning Doomsday – a film he was involved in – and its follow-up, Secret Wars, which he’ll also be working on.

Shang-Chi 2 Still in Limbo

As much as I’d love to see it, it’s looking like Shang-Chi 2 is stuck in development hell. The first movie came out in 2021, and honestly, with no firm plans being made, we might be waiting seven years – or even longer – to see a sequel, if it ever actually gets made. I’m still hoping for the best, though!

While successful, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings didn’t reach the same high levels of popularity as most other Marvel movies. It made $432 million worldwide, which was less than expected for a Marvel film.

Director Now Focused on Spider-Man

It’s also unclear if the project will move forward, as director Destin Daniel Cretton is currently working on the new Spider-Man movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cretton was also previously attached to direct Avengers: Kang Dynasty before exiting the project.

Marvel hasn’t announced when the next Shang-Chi movie might happen, and it’s currently unknown if director Destin Daniel Cretton will be involved.
